Zinc Plating Service
Automated Rack & Barrel Processing
Greystone protects high volumes of safety-critical ferrous metal parts from wear and corrosion by applying Zinc Plating, Zinc Iron Plating and Zinc Nickel Plating. We have delivered over one billion zinc-plated parts to a global customer base across diverse industries including automotive, aerospace, defense, medical, and semiconductors.
Vertical integration complements our Zinc Plating services with multiple operations such as tumbling, blasting, oiling, and baking. This integration allows us to offer comprehensive turnkey solutions tailored to multiple applications.
Greystone Zinc Plating lines are equipped to handle both rack and barrel operations. This capability enables large-scale production with quick turnaround times, allowing us to meet tight deadlines. From job shop orders to high-volume production (1-30 million parts), we have the capacity and personnel to fulfill your requirements with production across three shifts. Additional capacity is available if needed.
Advantages of Zinc Plating
- Corrosion Protection: Zinc Plating provides excellent corrosion resistance, protecting the metal substrate from rust and other forms of corrosion
- Improved Wear Resistance: the presence of Zinc Plating can improve the wear resistance of metal parts, increasing their longevity and reducing maintenance requirements
Greystone’s Zinc Plating Process
Zinc Plating is a very efficient electroplating method that deposits a sacrificial layer of zinc over a substrate to provide corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of zinc plating is influenced by both the plating thickness and whether a chromate and/or sealer is applied.
The corrosion protection quality in zinc plating can be tailored to meet specific requirements. Depending on your application needs, specifications typically dictate a zinc plating thickness within a specific range. This flexibility allows zinc plating to adapt to various environments.
Chromate Color Options
The chromate conversion coating dictates the appearance of zinc plating. We offer the following chromate color options:
- Clear
- Black
- Olive drab
- Yellow
Clear chromate finishes normally have a bright luster and slight iridescence, while black chromate provides a dark black appearance. We only offer black chromate as a rack-plating process for cosmetic reasons, as it does not naturally lend itself to barrel/tumbling operations.
Zinc Plating Specifications
Greystone’s Zinc Plating solutions meet dozens of specifications including:
- AMS 2402
- ASTM B633
